There was a Time

There was a time when I was stout and proud,
I’d talk and breathe and laugh out loud,
I’d shake the room and inspire the crowd,

There was a time when I was free.

There was a time when I crossed the borderlines,
And stalked the sun wherever it shines,
Made love to the moon under large leafy pines,

There was a time when I was free.

There was a time when love still stood a chance,
And the heart and soul survived on romance,
And the thoughts in my mind would sway and dance,

There was a time when I was free.

Now the time has come when I am judged by my name,
My belief is tarnished my defenses are lame,
Pride has departed leaving humility and shame,

There was a time when I was free.

And you my love who always believed in me,
Have faith and trust that you will forever be,
The endless love that will set me free,

The time will come an’ I’ll be free
